When we talk about top smart-phone operating systems in US market, we think of RIM, iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile (Windows Phone 7) and Palm. We all know, how Apple’s iPhone OS and Google’s Android OS are growing.
Looking at the report provided by ComScore, RIM is still holding the top spot followed by, Apple, Microsoft, Google and Palm. But, when we look the growth from the last three month starting from November 2009, Google had a tremendous growth compare to the other smart-phone operating systems. Google captured 7.1% of US smart-phone market share with a increase of 4.3 points, which is 154% increase. RIM is having the largest piece of US smart-phone market share, holding 43.0% with a increase of 1.7 points, which is only 4.11% increase.
Thought Apple is holding the 2nd biggest piece of US smart-phone market share, the growth percent is very disappointing. Unfortunately, Apple could only gain 0.3 points, which is only 1.2% increase, in the last three months starting from November, 2009.
Nothing has changed with Microsoft and Palm, as they again lost 4.0 and 2.1 points respectively. We are positive that, number will definitely go up for Microsoft when Windows Phone 7 Series will be available (that wouldn’t be till the end of this year.)
With that said, Should Steve Job’s be worried about this? – Well, I guess, down the road, when 4th Gen iPhone releases we can see the number go high. But, will Google give any room to beat Android’s growth or to overtake Android’s growth percent? Remember, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said Android OS growth is accelerating – 60,000 Android Powered devices a day.
