How to Root Motorola Milestone?

By Mac Hack PC 19 January 2010 View Comments

Last week we have posted a How to guide on Root your Motorola Droid. Couple weeks ago we have posted an how to guide on – Nexus One Rooted. Our source were able to root it before Nexus One was launched.

First I would like to start with – What is Root? To Root is some thing like To Jailbreak. Where you will have access to system file once its rooted. GREAT!!! But, what is the use of Rooting? Well, once you have a rooted device you could modify the OS any way you want like adding your own skin or theme or even you can run application which were rejected by Android Market (in this case).

Now its time to Root Motorola Milestone (European version of Droid – If you are not aware Motorola Droid was the Gadgate of the Year 2009)

Motorola Milestone

Guys at Android-Hilfe made this possible (Soda, SeraphimSerapis, Nodch). With the following step by step instructions you can root your Motorola Milestone to gain full system access to Android 2.0.

————————————————————————————————————————–

Warning: Please do it on your own risk. We will not be responsible for any damage or breakage of your phone.

————————————————————————————————————————–

Step 1: Download one of this file and save it on the desktop (File One (milestone_root.zip) / File Two (milestone_root.zip)) -  Both file are same. but hosted in different place.

Step 2: Rename the downloaded file to Update.zip

Step 3: Copy the Update.zip to your SD Card (On your Milestone)

Step 4: Power off your Phone

Step 5: Now, while holding the Camera button power on the phone – Once you get a Triangle + Exclamation point you are in

Step 6: Apply the update by pressing Volume Up + Camera

That’s it.. Now, you have full access to your Motorola Milestone. Please feel free to ask me questions if you face any challenges.

I press the on button while holding the camera button, then the motorolla sign comes up, i let go of the power button but still keep the camera button down but still cant seem to access the screen with the triangle n the exclamation mark, it just seems to continue normal booting up procedures. I just dragged and dropped the file (Update.zip) into the SD card folder, not into any other folder.
      pls help!

Does it work for Android 2.1?
    • I am not sure if upper and lower case matters. But, When you press and hold Volume Up and Camera it should pull up recovery mode. Try to hold till you see the recover menu. Try downloading another file and flash it. May be the current file is corrupted. Let me know.

I got triangle visible. But pressing (or holding) volume+ and camera doesn't do anything. I'm using 2.0.1 firmware.

Should this file be Update.zip or update.zip (upper or lovew case?)
Should I hold volume+ and camera long time?
    • You are right.. Same steps
