In our recent article we have showed you how to install Android OS 2.1 on Verizon Droid Eris. As we mentioned, this particular ROM (Android OS 2.1) was leaked by a XDA member and possibly HTC worker named RiverRunner for HTC Droid Eris. It looks like normal sense with the latest features, such as the pinch-to-zoom, home screen features.
Now, MaXo64 member of XDA Developer ported this leaked Android OS 2.1 Droid Eris to HTC Hero. Plenty of users mentioned that the updated version is working GREAT and its FAST.
If you are interested, you can flash this patched ROM onto your HTC Hero. Below you can find a step by step process on how to flash this ROM onto your HTC Hero. But, before that please read the following warning.

Step 1: Download the HeroDesire03.zip and save it on your desktop.
Step 2: Check MD5SUM to see if the file is corrupted – b3fd73a0a817ee5cac872141b872669b
Step 3: Now, plug your phone to you computer.
Step 4: Take Nandroid Backup – If you want to back up your data
Step 5: Rename the downloaded zip file to update.zip
Step 6: Now, move the update.zip from your desktop to the SD card.
Step 7: Unplug your phone from the computer and Turn it OFF
Step 8: Turn the phone ON by holding down the Home and Power till you get to the custom recovery screen.
Step 9: Select Wipe from the menu and then Select Apple Update.zip
Step 10: Now, just sit and relax. Your HERO is flashing. Once done reboot your phone
There you have it! Enjoy your HTC Hero running Android OS 2.1.
