How to root Motorola Droid on Windows

Updated (01/19/2010) – How to Root Motorola Milestone?

Couple weeks ago we have posted an how to guide on – Nexus One Rooted. Our source were able to root it before Nexus One was launched. Few Motorola Droid user requested me to post this article.

First I would like to start with – What is Root? To Root is some thing like To Jailbreak. Where you will have access to system file once its rooted. GREAT!!! But, what is the use of Rooting? Well, once you have a rooted device you could modify the OS any way you want like adding your own skin or theme or even you can run application which were rejected by Android Market (in this case).

That sounds very exciting.. Right? Let get started with the How to root Motorola Droid

Warning: Please do it on your own risk. We will not be responsible for any damage or breakage of your phone.

Step 1: Download the following files – Firmware 2.0.1 & Droid Superuser and Save them to a folder on your desktop

Step 2: Click on Start > Run > Type “cmd” – A black windows will pop up

Step 3: Navigate to the folder where you have saved the files.

Step 4: Now type the following command “copy /b signed-voles-ESD56-from-ESD20.84263456.zip+droid-superuser.zip update.zip

Step 5: Now, you will see a new file in the same folder by name update.zip

Step 6: Copy this update.zip to the SDCard of your phone

Step 7: Boot the phone to recovery mode

  • Power Off your Phone
  • Now, While Holding the X Power on the Phone – Once you get a Triangle + Exclamation Point you are in

Step 8: Apply the update by pressing Volume Up + Camera

There you have it.. Enjoy!

      this method to get root DOES NOT WORK for the mototrola milestone. maybe think about your headline… :)

      Here is the Mac Version:
      At Step 2: One Terminal on your Mac
      Step 3: Navigate to the folder where you saved your files. (Lets say you saved on the Desktop)
      Step 4: cd ~/Desktop and hit return
      Step 5: cat signed-voles-ESD56-from-ESD20.84263456.zip droid-superuser.zip > update.zip and hit return
      Follow step 6 from the above tutorial
