What is .caf file type? Caf is a digital audio format based on Apple’s Core Audio technology; stores audio data as well as text annotations, markers, channel layouts, and other information; similar to a .AIFF or .WAVE file, but does not have a 4GB size limit and can store any number of audio channels.
The CAF audio format is supported by Mac OS X applications that incorporate the Core Audio API.
Okay! Now, How can you convert a MP3 File to a CAF file using iTunes? This tutorial is in MAC. For all Windows Users, I believe, the process will be the same.
Step 1: Start your iTunes.
Step 2: From the Main iTunes Menu go to Preferences.
Step 3: Make sure you are in “General Tap”
Step 4: Click on “Import Settings”
Step 5: Where you will see “Import Using – “, Select “AIFF Encoder or WAVE Encoder“. In this case I have selected “AIFF”
Step 6: Save Import Settings Window and Preference Window by clicking on “OK”
Step 7: Okay. We are done with the setup process. Now, select any MP3 song from your play-list.
Step 8: Right click on it and select “Create AIFF Version”
Step 9: You will see iTunes creating AIFF version of the selected MP3.
Step 10: Now, Right click the same mp3 file and select “Get Info”.
Step 11: In the “Summary” tab, see where this file is located (File Path.)
Step 12: Go to that Folder. Here you should see the Converted AIFF version of the MP3 File.
Step 13: Now, Right click and select “Get Info”.
Step 14: Change the file extension to caf from aiff .
There you are. Now, you got your “.CAF” files.
