How to flash Android 2.1 on your Samsung i5700 (GALAXY Spica)

Samsung i5700 GALAXY is originally loaded with Android 1.5. Samsung is still working on getting Android 2.1 for its GALAXY. We can expect this to be happened by early 2nd Quarter. A leaked ROM suggests that Android 2.1 is heading to Samsung Spica. Guys at samdroid was able to flash Android 2.1 on a Samsung i5700 GALAXY Spica.

Warning: Please do it on your own risk. We will not be responsible for any damage or breakage of your phone.

Note: Please Back up your Data, Take your SIM card out of it, Close all application running on your system that uses USB ports (Like external drives, USB drives etc..)

Step 1: Download all the below files and extract them and save them in a folder on your desktop (Except the tar files within the firmware).

Leaked Android 2.1 Eclair Firmware from Samsung

Odin_v4_03.zip – Multiloader Application and Spica OPS


drv5700.zip – Drivers for Samsung i5700

Once you have done downloading you should have the following files

Odin_v4_03.exe

spica.ops

i5700EDDJB2_Bootloader.tar

i5700EDDJB2_Phone.tar

i5700EDDJB2_CC164436_PDA_eng.tar

i5700EDDJB2_CSC-CL164436-DD.tar

Step 2: Shut down your phone and remove the SDCard from the phone.

Step 3: Now, lets put the phone in Download Mode – To do that press the Volume Down + Camera +Power Button (all together)

Step 4: Now, connect your phone to your computer using USB cable.

Step 5: On your computer run Odin_v4_03.exe (Odin Multi Downloader)

Step 6: Here you should see a COM port with a yellow background

Step 7: Select the files respectively (Find the image below)

OPS - spica.ops


Bootloader – i5700EDDJB2_Bootloader.tar

Phone – i5700EDDJB2_Phone.tar

PDA – i5700EDDJB2_CC164436_PDA_eng.tar

CSC – i5700EDDJB2_CSC-CL164436-DD.tar

In case if you are using some other firmware and it has only one tat file. Then Click on One Package and point the tar file

Step 8: Once you are done with pointing all file to the respected fields Click on START

Step 9: Now, just sit and relax. Let the Odin Multi Downloader do its magic.

Once you see this message “Close serial port and wait until rebooting“. Then disconnect the USB.

There you have it! Enjoy your Samsung i5700 with Android 2.1.
