Jailbreak iPhone running iOS 4 using Sn0wbreeze v1.6.1 on windows [Guide]

Update (07/01/2010) – Fix YouTube/Error 2 iTunes Restore Issues with Sn0wBreeze v1.6.2 Jailbreak

As we expected Sn0wbreeze aka PwnageTool for windows is officially out. We have already discussed about Snowbreeze and what it is capable of. Honestly, I am very impressed with @iH8Sn0w, the man responsible for Sn0wbreeze. The user interface is very nice and friendly and it is very self explanatory. @iH8sn0w not only developed Sn0wbreeze, he made some awesome iPhone tools like f0recast, iREB, AUTOSHSH, blackra1n iTunes 9.1 Fix.

iPhone 3G / iPodTouch 2G Users: You have an option here. You could follow this Sn0wbreeze tutorial here or you can following these links to jailbreak using redsn0w – redsn0w for Mac / redsn0w for Win.

iPhone 3GS: If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with Sn0wbreeze v1.6.1.

Note: If you have Spirit Jailbreak. You could downgrade it to 3.1.2 (only if you have SHSH saved for 3.1.2). Then, Jailbreak it using PwnageTool, RedSnow or BlackRa1n and then use Snowbreeze v1.6.1 to Jailbreak iOS 4.

Unlock Situation: With the current version of UltraSn0w 0.93 we can unlock the following basebands (04.26.08, 05.11.07 , 05.12.01, 05.13.04)

New BootROM ? – Unfortunately, iPhone 3GS users with new bootrom has to wait till a new exploit found. If you belong to this category, then start praying GeoHot. As, he seems to be the one to get hold of a new exploit. So, Keep following us as we will keep you updated with all your Jailbreaking & Unlocking needs.

What do we need to get started?

Windows – Don’t have Windows? PwnageTool is for Mac Users

Download iOS 4 iPhone 3GS or

Downlaod iOS 4 iPhone 3G or

iTunes 9.2 (Mac / Win 32 / Win 64)

Sn0wbreeze v1.6 – Mirror 1 – Sn0wbreeze v1.6.2

So, as we have everything, lets get started..

Step 1: Launch Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1, click OK to the disclaimer and click Next.

Step 2: Select Expert Mode and click Next

Step 3: Click on Browse and navigate to the downloaded IPSW file and click Open. (It will verify and will give you a notice – Which we have already covered above in detailed)

Step 4: Click on I UNDERSTAND and click Next

Step 5: Now, Click on General and Click on Next

Step 6: Here you will get bunch of options Like

• Activate The iPhone – This option will activate your iPhone, if you are not on a official cell phone carrier
• NOR-Only – Making the IPSW as a NOR-Only IPSW has 1 major advantage. You can change your Boot Logo without wiping out ANYTHING on your Device, and iPhone Users can make iBoot boot in Verbose without a Restore
• Rest of them just does what it says.
• Root Partition Size: You could increase if you feel your system files need more space. (800 MB should be more than enough)

Note: Sn0wbreeze will never update your baseband. With that said, currently we don’t have to case about baseband as all basebands are unlockable in the current market.

Step 7: You will come to a unlock options. Depending on your IPSW file it will automatically take the appropriate one. Just Click Next

Step 8: Now, Installers options – Cydia is selected by default. if you don’t case about Rock just Click Next. If you want ROCK as an addition installer them Click on ROCK and Click Next

Step 9: Custom Apps – Your favorite apps can be added to your IPSW file. (If you have .deb file, you can add them here) and click Next

Step 10: You also have an option to change Boot Logo and Recovery Logo - If you don’t want to change Just click Next

Step 11: Now, Click on Build IPSW and click on Next

Step 12: Your custom IPSW file will start cooking with all the flavor that you have added.

Now, that we have a Custom Firmware, its time to restore it.

Step 1: Connect one side of the USB to your computer, Launch iTunes and Turn Off you Device

Step 2: Hold down the HOME button on your phone and connect the other end of  the USB cable to the iPhone

Step 3: You will notice iTunes & USB cable on your iPhone (That basically telling you that its in recovery mode)

Step 4: Now, HOLD down the SHIFT key and click on restore.

Step 5: Now, navigate to the Custom Firmware IPSW which is saved on your desktop and click on Open

That’s its, you can now relax. iTunes will take care of the rest.
