64-bit OS for faster processing and greater memory access, support for multicore processing via Grand Central Dispatch and OpenCL, and faster Java and QuickTime performance.

Do note that Snow Leopard does away with two old Apple technologies: It no longer supports the long-waning AppleTalk network protocol, and it won’t run on PowerPC-based Macs. If you have PowerPC apps (such as the Microsoft Office Update utility), note they will run if you have Apple’s Rosetta technology installed. If Snow Leopard may not install Rosetta automatically, you can install it using the Optional Packages installer on the Snow Leopard installation DVD.

Now, the question is How to install Snow Leopard from a USB Drive or an External Hard Drive?

What do I need to Start?

  1. Snow Leopard .dmg file – “snowleopard_10a432_userdvd.dmg”
  2. USB or External Hard Drive (Min 8 & Max Your Wish) – EMPTY
  3. Mac OS X (Leopard)

Well, Here is the Step By Step Process with some screen shots to make it more visual.

Step 1: Download Snow Leopard (Google it – I may upload it myself and leave a link here. But, It may take some time. Please check back or leave a comment. So, that it will make me upload this file for you.)

Step 2: Plug your USB or External Hard Drive

Step 3: Open Finder. GO >> Utilities >> Disk Utility OR Hold “SHIFT+COMMAND+U” >> Double click on Disk Utility

Step 4: You will come to Disk Utility Screen

Step 5: As you already plugged in your USB / External Hard Drive, you should be able to see it in the LEFT side bar.

Step 6: Now, Drag your downloaded snowleopard_10a432_userdvd.dmg into LEFT side bar in Disk Utility Window (Not into your USB / EHD).

Step 7: Now, Select your USB Drive OR External Hard Drive and click on “Restore”.

Step 8: From the left side bar, drag your snowleopard_10a432_userdvd.dmg file into the image text box to the right.

Step 9: Now, drag your USB or External Hard Drive and drop it into the destination field.

Step 10: Now, click on “Restore” at the bottom. You will get this message.

Step 11: Click on Erase. YOu will be prompt to enter your admin password. Please do so.

Step 12: It will start doing its thing. Once done you can see your USB or EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE name changes.

Step 13: Now, we are done with mounting your dmg file to your external drive.

Step 14: Now double click on your USB or External Hard Drive. Yo will get to this screen.

Step 15: Click on Mac OS X app and follow on screen instructions. I am adding couple more screen shots for you.

There you GO. Now you have your Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) installed on your Mac for FREE. Please make sure to run your “Software Updates”.
