In US SmartPhone market is huge, and it can be measured in many different ways. Different different analysts use different different methods to measure. When its comes to ComScore, surveys the number of phones in the US per month. The following data is summarized for the three-month period ending in October.

ComScore Chart October - 2009

ComScore Chart October - 2009

Looking at the chart, it very clear that Apple finally beats Microsoft. In ComScore’s July Report, iPhone was little behind Microsoft with only 29,281 users/owners. Where as this time,  Apple overtakes Microsoft with 1,838,252 user/owners – That’s a huge increase.

Let’s see who else is the run. RIM is standing in the first place with 14,963,238, Google is standing at the end ? Remember, Droid was released in November and this report is talking about October. Things might be different for Google in the next report because of couple reasons. Droid (Gadget of the Year 2009) and Nexus One (Google Phone) – both runs on Google OS(Android). Where as Symbian, is standing right above Google in US. But, its market is Europe is lot better than US.

All market leaders like RIM, Apple, Microsoft, Palm, Symbian and Google, are trying to gain the top position in this run. It will be very interesting to watch, Microsoft with Windows Mobile 7, Google with Android 2.1 on Google Phone/Nexus One and Apple with OS 4.0.

It sure seems like on the paper Apple is beating microsoft, to be honest I am certain when Steve Ballmer was laughing at $500 price for a Iphone, he knew he was fighting a loosing battle, lets hope he comes out with pink (very questionable name choice for a smartphone) very soon a la vista which will only benefit every other OS and hardware in the smartphone market. Now lets talk about RIM, it should sure had a head start and should not be surprising to anyone with its lead whats disappointing is the PALM with its much hyped PRE and more girly pixi could not cause a dent in Iphone sales as it is supposed to do so. Nokia did not really push Symbian in the US territory to its advantage and let RIM be the leader. I see a battle between Apple Iphone and Google (well with many different carriers and phones) which I think Google will win in the next couple of years in terms of number of users and I would wonder if that would add to the bottom line for Google.....Only time can answer....
