Recently we have published few similar articles on smart-phone operating system’s usage figures which were provided by ComScore (September & December) and which were based on US Market only. Now, here are some more interesting figure on worldwide level.
Looking at this chart, there few interesting things I would like to address.
One thing for sure that, it will be a huge challenge for RIM, Apple, Microsoft and Google to come around Symbian in a worldwide level. When we look at US Market, Symbian market share is less than current Google’s Android market share. Because, Symbian is not popularly used smart-phone in US
Look at the growth of Google’s Android – 1073%. This is tremendously huge growth when compare to the last year. Remember, these figures doesn’t have any impact of Nexus One. Because, Nexus One was launch in the first week of January 2010. On the other note – There were plenty of smart-phone launched and will be launched soon with Android as there OS. Prediction are: in just few year we can see Google’s Android OS sitting on the TOP 1 (If not Top 2 for sure)
Apple captured 15.1% worldwide market share with a growth percent of 82.9% compare to year 2008. Remember, Apple entered global market in mid of 2009. Microsoft had 13.9% market share, in 2008 standing at the third spot but, now in 2009 Apple over took Microsoft and captured the 3th place. In 2009, Microsoft could only capture 8.8% market share. RIM still holds 2nd place with 20.8% market share. But, looking at the growth percent which is 46.6 %, we can easy predict that Apple may over take RIM in a year or two. Because, Apple will be launching its 4th Gen iPhone in its upcoming WWDC event, which is schedule for June.
For the past two year, Apple captured number 1 spot shipping touch-screen smart-phones worldwide. Interesting enough, Nokia could only capture 1.5% market share in the year 2008 and in 2009 Nokia had incredible growth percent of 4070% and could capture 29.5% and standing right below Apple in the 2nd spot. Follow by HTC with 10.2% and Samsung with 6.4%. Please look at the chart for more figures..
If you remember, what Steve Jobs said at Apple Media Event/iPad launch Event. – “Apple is the number one mobile devices company by revenue.” This statement look correct!
