Only 80,000 Nexus One devices sold so far

6 February 2010 Comments

Few weeks ago we have mentioned that, only 20,000 Nexus One units sold in the first week, the numbers were not promising. Now, after a month when we looked at the number provided by Flurry, they still look bad. Google managed to sell only 80,000 Nexus One devices so far. If we compare this with iPhone’s first launch and Droid’s first launch numbers, the sold count is way far behind.

Nexus One Sold Numbers

Flurry’s tracking system works with more than 10,000 developer applications on the iPhone and Android platforms. Based on the applications used by new mobile phone users, Flurry can track roughly how many users purchased and used the phone in the first month.

I understand this is not a fair comparison but still – Only 80,000 devices? I bet Google is definitely looking into this area. Just few days ago Google released its First update which took care of few bugs and added great new features which include MultiTouch functionality in browser and maps.

Google’s poor sales could be the end result of poor advertising with a small budget compared to the iPhone and Droid. Google is promoting its Nexus One via Website, YouTube, and Nexus One ads on other websites. Do you think this advertising is enough? The Google Nexus One is also limited to T-Mobile, but does come unlocked, if purchase through Google’s website. Should Google allow T-Mobile to sell unlocked Nexus One phone in their stores?

On the other hand I feel that Google wants to make this a hit across all carriers, and this “sneak peak” intro with TMobile gives them time to iron out any issues in the process and OS. Because this is the new venture for them.

Please note that these are only early predictions and sales figures may actually be much higher than the results shown.  These figures do give a rough estimate on how many devices have been sold. If our predictions are real, the search giant will be embarrassed to share these number.
