By Mac Hack PC 28 January 2010 View Comments

Due to the Chinese government regulations, the current version of iPhone omits the WiFi functionality. Due to this, China Unicom sold about 250,000 iPhone. Because of the missing Wi-Fi functionality, a significant number of customer bought an iPhone from a different source (Other Countries) which has Wi-Fi functionality.

According to a Chinese site PCPOP, (English Translate) Foxconn is building WPAI version iPhone for China Unicom. WPAI is the Chinese National Standard for Wireless, which is also compatible to the worldwide used standard Wi-Fi. WAPI iPhone is assembling in Foxconn’s factories with a codename N88. It’s also mentioned that the 4th generation iPhone’s codename is N90. If you remember, Faxconn received an order for 4th Gen iPhone  back in December last year.
