What is the need for the 4th Gen iPhone to be taller than the one we have?

Let me say this – I am all about Apple Products. But, with the recent Apple’s revolutionary iPad which was launched by Steve Jobs recently in Apple Media Event, I was not impressed. Because, I was looking for a Apple’s tablet which will replace a laptop. If am not wrong, most of you were not impressed with the iPad. Plenty of them commented iPad as a “XL size of iPod” or “XL size of iPhone (with out phone functionality)”. Hearing all these – Why would Apple make a 4th Gen iPhone taller than the the current iPhone? Read the rest to understand why am I question this…

A iPhone repair site iResQ posted few pictures of the front panel of a touch screen phone which they claimed them to be 4th Gen iPhone parts which is about launch in Apple’s WWDC event. They have also address few interesting things..

1) The LCD appears to be factory glued to the digitizer which is more similar to the first generation iPhones than the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The digitizer can be separated from the LCD on the 3G and 3GS models, which should be interesting to all, but for the repair folks like us–this means that the 4G screen repair price will be higher since both parts will have to be replaced at once.

2) The iPhone 4G front panel seems to be about 1/4″ longer than its predecessors.

3) There is an interesting reflective, mirror-like surface directly above the speaker. This is likely a spot for the proximity sensor. If that’s what it is, it’s in a different location than previous models.

After reading these points, I got these questions floating in my mind…

Is this for real? Why would we need a taller iPhone? Is iPad not tall enough ? If Apple is really planning to change the size, they should make it shorter not taller. Where is the forward facing camera (I know, its not officially announced but, I would love to have a forward facing camera)?

Have a look at these images and tell us what you think?
