Yelp walks away from Google’s deal of half a billion dollars

Yelp Walks away from GoogleIn our recent articles we have mentioned that Google is on Fire. In the past few weeks Google was all into acquisitions. Recently Google acquired AdMob and then Google Planned to acquire Lala and now Google is in talks to acquire DocVerse.

One other acquisition, we discussed was acquiring Yelp. Google was very interested in acquiring Yelp for more than half a billion dollars and both Google and Yelp were in advance negotiations – Most of the deal was all finalized but, was not signed.

This weekend Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppleman informed Google that “Yelp will be walking away from this deal”.

This might be a BIG SURPRISE for Google. What might have happened over the weekend? Did Yelp got any support form Apple or Microsoft?

May be Apple is planning to buy Yelp for more than what Google had offered? Uhh! No surprise if this is TRUE. Because, Google and Apple were both interested in acquiring AdMob and Google won deal!. After that acquisition, Google showed interest on Lala but, Apple got the deal and acquired Lala an online music store. Looking at this history, we can speculate few things.. But, we just have to wait and see what Yelp planned for it self.

What would Google do now? Will Google come with a similar product like Yelp? Will it be successful?

Not necessarily when Google enters a new market it will be a success by default.

  • Google’s answer to Craigslist was Base and the result is a Failure,
  • Google’s answer to Wikipedia was Knol and the result is still fighting to be successful,
  • Google’s answer to YouTube was Google Video and the result was “Google Acquired YouTube” in other words Google Video was not as successful as YouTube,
  • Google’s answer to Twitter was Jaiku and the result was not successful yet,
  • Google’s answer to Exchange was Wave and the result – Its too early to say because its in BETA,
  • Google’s answer to Yahoo Answer was Answers and the result is a failure,
  • Google’s answer to Yahoo Messenger and Live Messenger was GTalk and the result is still struggling to be successful.
  • Google’s answer to iPhone is Google Phone/Nexus One and the result – Its too early to say, Google Phone will be out next Year.

If we keep going we can list a lot more…

Whats your opinion, Will Google be successful in every market they enter?
